About the Damroo

The damroo, or damru, is a small, hourglass-shaped drum that is often associated with the Hindu god Shiva. It symbolises the sound of creation, the rhythm of the universe, and the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The damroo is also represents the union of male and female energies, as well as the balance between opposing forces.

The damroo is also associated with the Sanskrit language. It was the sound of the damroo which gave birth to the first sounds of the Sanskrit language, which is considered to be the language of the Gods or the Mother of all Languages. With this sound Dakṣiputra Pāṇini ji (the world's first descriptive linguist or the father of linguistics) created the vowels and consonants. It stands for creation and new beginnings.

The damroo is a powerful symbol in Hinduism, representing the divine power of creation and destruction. It is a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the importance of finding balance in all things.

Policy Plan

Main Outlines of the Policy Plan

The foundation is dedicated to the realization of a Cultural Spiritual Centre that serves as an inclusive meeting place for various cultural and spiritual movements. Its primary objectives involve promoting cultural exchange, spiritual development, and community building by making cultural and spiritual wealth accessible to a broad audience. To achieve this, the foundation focuses on the acquisition and renovation of a suitable physical location and the organisation of festivals, exhibitions, and workshops. In compliance with Dutch tax regulations, at least 90% of all activities are aimed at the public interest, and the organisation operates strictly on a non-profit basis.

Remuneration Policy

The board of DAMROO Foundation International consists of an independent group of three members: Amrita Tewari, Lalit Bhusal Sharma, and Sandra Charoe (Board Member). These board members receive no salary or remuneration for their duties. They are only entitled to the reimbursement of documented expenses incurred specifically in the interest of the foundation, provided these are approved in writing beforehand. Travel expenses are covered according to standard fiscal norms.

Report of Activities

Current efforts are centered on the foundational steps required to launch the centre, including intensive fundraising through subsidies, crowdfunding, and benefit events. The foundation is actively developing a diverse program of activities in collaboration with artists and spiritual leaders while establishing communication channels such as a website and social media to inform the public. Furthermore, the organization is building partnerships with local authorities and educational institutions to maximize its social impact.

Financial Accountability

The foundation maintains a transparent administration, publishing an annual financial report including a balance sheet and a statement of income and expenditure. To ensure integrity, an independent accountant is tasked with auditing these financial documents. The foundation commits to holding no more capital than is reasonably necessary for its operations, ensuring that any surplus is directed toward its statutory goals. In the event of dissolution, the remaining liquidation balance must be transferred to another ANBI with a similar cultural or public-interest objective.
